diptych of oblivion - de Houtkust - May 2024
The sisters Ri-Jeanne & Noëlle Cuppens - both visual artists - have thoroughly renovated a former school building for primary education in Houthem St.Gerlch iand created living spaces and artist studios there. For themselves, but also for 'guest artists'. This is still at an early stage, and the 'houtkust' may ultimately prove to be a continuous 'work in progress'.
Bart Drost will do the kick-off and will have the honor of being the first artist to work in the guest studio from May 1 to 31, 2024. As a guiding motif for this working period, he takes a photo from his photo album: 1961, the first class of the Sint Martinusschool in Venlo. Brother Walter took care over his 45 boys. Drost himself is not in the photo. He was sick in his bed at home.
On July 7, Drost presented the results of his work period on site.
