visit the lord at your own risk - notre dame des arts ubbergen - 2010

In 2009, Bart Drost organized the group exhibition 'Visit the Lord at Your Own Risk' in the chapel Notre Dame des Arts in Beek-Ubbergen, with Zhifei Yang, Marianne Peijnenbrug and Rob Ruimers.

The chapel of 'Notre Dame des Anges' in Beek near Nijmegen has been used as an exhibition space for years and is therefore renamed 'Notre Dame des Arts'. The chapel's Exhibition Board has hung large baffles against the side walls. During the preparation of the exhibition, Drost discovered that there is a crossroads behind these baffles. Small sculptures in good condition, though the original colors have disappeared. Precisely these statues have led to the baffles. After all, 'the statues lead too much', they are too 'decisive' and they would 'block the art's outlines'.

Drost was flabbergasted. The contents, the appearance and the character of chapels and churches just inspire him to make his site-specific installations.

In response, for this presentation, he removed all baffles and built a staircase on wheels to allow the viewer to ride along the statues and finally see them closely.

'reasons to cry'

For this exhibition, Drost has drawn its own version of the crossroads. Pencil on paper. Size 15x10 cm. He presents the drawings on a kind of shade, in transparent plastic frames. The statues were bundled into a small book titled 'reasons to cry'.
