trifles

Bart Drost will manage the transformer house on Hezelstraat in the Ooijpolder in 2022. He makes this unique location available for art of all kinds and of course he also carries out a small-scale project every now and then...

The Van Steen En Natuur Foundation has placed information boards at industrial monuments in the Ooypolder. These consist of two panels with text and explanation about the industrial monument in question. There is also such an information board at the transformer house. A miscreant fired a shot at both panels (40x30cm), resulting in the whole thing having a poor, sad, but certainly aggressive appearance. This requires a small (or larger) intervention every now and then.

art on the road

From September 2023, a different painting can be seen every week on the two information boards at the transformer house under the heading of kunst onderweg. For his contributions, Bart Drost adapts the format of existing screen prints from 1997 (once 65x65cm becomes twice 40x30cm) and glues them onto two panels.

In the eighties and nineties of the last century - when money still grew on our backs - it was good practice for companies to give their customers a piece of art as a gift at the end of the year. a screen print was very popular as a business gift. At that time, Bart Drost had a series of prints printed at Kurtface in Nijmegen, in editions ranging from 30 to 70. Today you can still buy copies on various art auction sites. For next to nothing...

closer to the ground

During the whole month of August, 10 poets presented their work on the information boards at the transformer house, under the motto 'closer to the ground'. A new poem every three days. Thursday 31 August remained and Bart Drost placed his words on the boards for one day.

what disappears remains

In preparation for 'August transformer poem month', Bart Drost on July 29th applied a white paper underlay to the information boards of the transformer house. To make the job less boring, he pasted torn sheets of paper criss-cross on the panels. The result is abstract compositions. When the wet sheets of paper dried, the composition changed character and a preparatory job thus became a transformation in itself...

rising colors

Curious about what color can do with the transformer house and what a color field can bring about in the polder, Bart Drost hangs a different curtain in the doorway at the large hoist for one week.

Initially it was all about the image 'from the outside', but in the meantime beautiful scenes were also played out inside the transformer house.

figure seen box closed

MAAS invites artists to present the landscape in one of their sculptures under the motto 'figure seen, box closed'. From 13:00 to 17:00, the chosen image looks out over the Ooyse landscape from the hoist opening of the transformer house. Bart Drost placed his image on Monday, June 19, 2023.

drawing lines

At the transformer house there is an information panel in two parts, with text and explanation about this industrial monument. A miscreant fired a hail shot at the panels, with the result that the whole has a poor, sad but certainly also an aggressive appearance.

From 9 to 16 June 2023, Bart Drost will connect the holes left by the hail pellets with black thread. The lines that arise in this way initially become accidental drawings. But it also invites you to make choices. In fact, seven days (= seven drawings) are not nearly enough to try out all the possibilities.

alternations

Pnin Pnin (he writes and makes music) and Bart Drost started working together on a beautiful spring day. They exchanged words via e-mail for a joint 'poetic project' at the transformer house in the Ooijpolder. In the beautiful month of May of 2023, the former information board at this transformer house will show the result of this unique collaboration. New text will appear on the board every other day, starting on Saturday, May 6.

easied circumstances

As part of the series 'the transformation house' by MAAS and the Polder, visual artist Bart Drost applied a modest intervention to the transformer house on 1 May 2023 by sticking paper arrows in the bullet holes. The arrows are taken from printed maps of the Ooypolder.
